The main challenge here is to transform our energy system into a smart grid with minimal CO2 emissions. To this end, the research group deals with interdisciplinary issues from the fields of self-organisation and artificial intelligence. Another topic is self-organising swarm systems and their application in swarm robotics.

PhD position: Drones in Cellular Networks

The Networked and Embedded Systems Institute at the University of Klagenfurt, Austria offers an exciting PhD position in drones in cellular networks. Project Assistant (all genders welcome)

We are looking for a Project Assistant, all genders welcome, 20 hrs/week, initially concluded for one year with possible extension, Uni-KV: IIIa)
for the international ERASMUS+ KA2 Project “NEON – Network of Competences on Internet of Things” at the Embedded Communication Systems Lab, Institute of Networked and Embedded Systems @ Universität Klagenfurt.
The monthly minimum salary for this position, as stated in the collective agreement and according to the classification scheme is € 1.105,10 (gross, 14 x per year), but may be higher due to previous employment periods eligible for inclusion and other earnings and remunerations.

The embedded communication systems group (Prof. Tonello) has an open position for a research and teaching staff member (Universitätsassistent*in), temporary contract for 4 years, 75% employment, 30 hours per week. The contract will be based on a salary of at least 2.228,60 EUR per month.

Senior Researcher in Control and Self-Organization of Networked Dynamical Systems

The Institute of Networked and Embedded Systems at the University of Klagenfurt (Austria, Europe) has a long and successful track-record in research on control and self-organization in networked dynamical systems with applications to wireless communications, robotics, transportation, and energy systems. The USE Lab is organized in four research tracks and will address both hardware and software aspects focussing on model-based approaches for multi-sensor fusion, adaptive operation, auto calibration, self-diagnosis and methods for the fast development and verification of advanced sensor systems which include the exploitation of advanced signal processing and machine learning techniques. This involves basic and application oriented interdisciplinary research to offer industry accelerated market entrance possibilities for innovative ideas e.g., in the fields IoT (Internet of Things) and I4.0 (Industry 4.0).

We are soliciting applications for research track #3 “Networked Sensing, Sensor Fusion and Virtual Sensing”, which covers the following topics: Resource-aware in-network processing and analytics of homogeneous and heterogeneous sensor data; multi-sensor and multi-modal fusion; self-calibration, self-organization and resource management in networked sensing systems; methods for resource-aware data distribution and virtual sensing in sensor networks.
